Jesus once told his disciples off for trying to keep children out of his way. He said, “Let the little children come to me, for the Kingdom of God belongs to them!” They’re powerful words, which show us something about how God feels about children.
In this Parish we make an effort to help children engage in worship and to play their part in the family of God. Below you’ll find details of the children groups, and children’s worship, which happen in Weston and Shavington.
Edward Bear Club – Edward Bear is currently taking a break but he’s hoping to be back soon! Check back here or our Facebook page for details of Edward Bear’s return.

St Mark’s Toddler Group
St Mark’s Toddler Group is run with a Christian ethos and aims to offer a safe and friendly environment for adults with their pre-school children to meet and share mutually enjoyable activities. Toys, crafts, dressing up and pretend play along with climbing and riding equipment are available each week and a healthy, often home-made snack is available each week for both adults and children.
The group meets each Tuesday from 1.30pm-3.15pm with the exception of a 2 week holiday at both Christmas and Easter.
Chips in Church
Chips in Church is an extension of St Mark’s toddlers, for toddlers, ex-toddlers, older siblings and friends, held each Tuesday from 12 noon – 1.30pm during the school summer holidays, giving all an opportunity to meet old friends, make new friends and to share activities.
The group meets at 12 noon in the church to register before sending ‘shoppers’ to buy chips for all. The chips are eaten at tables in church, along with drinks and any additional food brought to be shared. Chips and hot drinks are also shared by adults.
The afternoon then extends into normal St Mark’s Toddler session but with activities also suitable for older children, particularly using the church field when weather permits. Sessions in 2018 included a den making afternoon, a bubble making afternoon and a sports day.
A number of Tuesdays are also used to have group outings for those interested. Proven favourite activities are a train trip to the airport, the ice cream farm and picnics at various parks in Cheshire.
GLOW (God Loves Our World)
Meets fortnightly during term time on Tuesdays at 3.30pm at St Mark’s. GLOW is specially for primary school aged children, and involves food, games, crafts, bible stories, songs, and prayers. Everyone is welcome! Bring your own adult!
GLOW dates for next term, all Tuesdays:
- 8th and 22nd January
- 5th and 26th March
Sunday Celebration meets on the first Sunday of every month at St Mark’s Church. It’s a cafe style service, with breakfast served from 9am and throughout the service which begins at 9.30am. You’ll find the usual ingredients — prayers, bible stories, songs, time for reflection — but in a much more relaxed style & friendly atmosphere which is good for children and families.
Once a month on Sunday mornings at 9.30am at St Mark’s, primary school aged children become Bible explorers, working together to play games, sing songs, compete crafts, and learn more about God, themselves, and the world around. We normally dig a bit deeper into the theme from the Sunday Celebration at the beginning of the month. Everyone is welcome! All our leaders have been cleared by DBS to work with children.
