Under the Church Representation Rules a new Church Electoral Roll is being prepared. All persons who wish to have their names entered on the new Roll, whether their names are entered on the present Roll or not, are requested to apply for enrolment not later than 29^th March 2019. The new Roll will come into operation on 7^th April 2019.

Forms can be downloaded here and the Privacy Notice is also available to download.

Hard copies of the form can be obtained from either All Saints or St Marks or from the Electoral Roll Officer.

Our annual All Saints & St Mark’s Parish Meal happened to fall on 25^th January this year – so we couldn’t resist a “Burns Night” theme”. 52 Parishioners sat down to a wonderful meal of Cock-a-leekie soup followed by Haggis, Neaps and Tatties (with Melon and Beef or Vegetarian casseroles also on offer), all cooked by our talented volunteers.

The Haggis was paraded around All Saints Church Hall for all to admire, to the tunes of a Scottish Piper, before the “Ode to the Haggis” was read and the traditional Toast raised.

Whilst we were digesting the main course everyone joined in singing some well-known (and some less well known….) Scottish songs, to work up a further appetite for the wonderful array of tempting Sweets and Cheese which rounded the meal off.

A great night was had by all, many thanks to everyone who worked so hard preparing the food and clearing everything away afterwards.

After a busy festive period featuring, knitted angels, carols by candlelight, angel wings, dress up nativities, Christingles and concerts and events we are looking forward to getting stuck in to our usual activities in the New Year.  All of our usual groups will be meeting again over the next few weeks:

GLOW, our group for primary school aged children at St Mark’s, starts on Tuesday 8th January at 3:30pm (keep an eye on the calendar for the rest of this terms dates).

Friendship Lunches as usual at 12noon on Tuesdays at St Mark’s

Singers at St Mark’s (SAS) starts again on Tuesday 8th January at 7:45pm at St Mark’s

St Mark’s Invites you to a Ladies Evening (SMILE), an evening for ladies only, with no need to spend a lot of money, wear expensive clothes or stay late. The evening starts at 8pm in St Mark’s Church hall and lasts until the last person needs to leave or the conversation has run its course. Every 2nd Tuesday evening at 8pm at St Mark’s Hall starting on 8th January.

Craft and Chatter is on as usual Thursdays from 1:30-3pm at St Mark’s, come along and join in

Monthly Prize Bingo is on Thursday 10th January at 7pm at St Mark’s, £4.50 for 12 games and tea or coffee.

Next Friendship Lunch at All Saint’s Hall is on Wednesday 16th January (and fortnightly afterwards) at 12noon

Both All Saints’ and St Mark’s hold regular Fellowship Lunches, an opportunity to get together with others and share a simple meal of soup, savouries and cake.

More than a good lunch for a good price the lunches are an opportunity to meet with friends old and new.

Here are some of the All Saints’ team:

St Mark’s lunches are held 12noon every Tuesday and All Saints’ lunches are 12noon every other Wednesday.  The All Saints’ lunches are advertised outside the hall on the weeks they are happening or check the calendar to see when the next one is happening.

St Mark’s is beautifully decorated with angel wings designed by church and local groups, which has become a recent tradition, here are just a few of them:

Next Thursday is the Big Community Nativity at Shavington Primary School, from 5pm, come dressed as your favourite nativity character.

Then on Christmas Eve we have our Crib services, come along as a character from the nativity story. Will you be a sheep, donkey, angel, shepherd, inn keeper…

And our Christmas Eve Midnight Communion is at St Mark’s at 11:30pm.

Christmas Day we have our United Parish Christmas Communion at All Saints’ at 10am.

St Mark’s New Build fund has received a welcome boost of £2,017.31 from the Coop’s Local Community Fund.

Local Coop members, who have shopped and chosen to support local causes with their 1% since last November have helped to raise this total.

St Mark’s New Build will be a welcoming community space in the heart of the village, with space for groups and activities and a cafe.

We have just had a successful Race Night at Shavington club, looks like it was a fun evening.

The next fundraising event will be the Celebrating Christmas event on 8th December.

So we are almost in the season of Advent, when we take some time for reflection as our thoughts turn towards the Christmas season.

We have lots going on throughout December, including a Christingle service at All Saints, several carol services and concerts.
